Why We Exist
Our Values
We do what we say we will do.
We raise issues early, communicate directly, and take responsibility for our scope.
Problems are dealt with, not passed on.
We focus on getting it right first time.
Design is coordinated, details are checked, and installation is held to standards.
Quality, compliance and buildability are controlled through our systems.
Safety is controlled, not assumed.
We operate in high-risk environments where poor decisions have consequences.
Clear RAMS, supervision and enforcement are non-negotiable.
If standards aren’t met, work stops.
We work as a team.
Our work depends on alignment between all business functions.
Clear roles, communication and accountability ensure that projects move forward.
Long-term relationships are built through consistent delivery.

Sustainability
As a third-generation family business, we take a long-term view of how we operate.
Our focus is simple: deliver projects efficiently, reduce waste where possible, and minimise environmental impact through how we design, manufacture and install.
Thornton is a member of Business in the Community (BITC), Northern Ireland’s responsible business network, helping companies improve their environmental and social impact.
Our IMS follows ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. These systems guide how we plan, deliver, and review our projects, ensuring standards remain consistent across the business.
For us, responsible practice starts with getting the job right first time — reducing rework, waste and disruption.
We take a long-term approach to both the business and the communities around us.
- Main Sponsor of our local GAA team, Erins Own Cargin GAC, for over 25 years.
- Ongoing support for local clubs and organisations.
- Investment in apprenticeships and structured development within the business.
- Staff length of service awards recognised at 10, 20 and 30 years.
We focus on practical measures across our operations:
- We monitor fuel use across our vehicle fleet and have introduced electric vehicles into the business.
- Our factory is supported by solar panels, helping power day-to-day operations.
- Waste segregation is standard practice across our manufacturing and office facilities.
- We partner with suppliers who provide Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to better understand the embodied carbon in the systems we install.
Our approach is practical and focused on steady improvement.
